Dal Vangelo di Matteo 4,1-11,
Qui, dal Vangelo sono riportate le tre tentazioni di Nostro Signore Gesù:

"...Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, dì che queste pietre diventino pane"
"...Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, gèttati giù; sta scritto infatti: ai suoi angeli darà ordini a tuo riguardo ed essi ti porteranno sulle loro mani perché il tuo piede non inciampi in una pietra"
" ...Di nuovo il diavolo lo portò sopra un monte altissimo e gli mostrò tutti i regni del mondo e la loro gloria e gli disse :"...Tutte queste cose io ti darò se, gettandoti ai miei piedi, mi adorerai".

Commenta il vangelo di oggi:
"Sono davvero, se le consideriamo bene, le tre grandi tentazioni dell'uomo di tutti i tempi: fame di successo, sete di potere, voglia di prestigio.
Sono i grandi mali che la Quaresima invita ad allontanare da noi, come fece Gesù, e che tutti i Santi e quanti aspirano alla santità hanno calpestato, con la stessa decisione di Gesù."

Se il Signore é stato tentato, quanto più noi lo possiamo essere.
Nella Sua natura umana, Gesù ha vissuto in prima persona cosa significhi respingere Satana e porre al primo posto le cose divine.

San Gregorio Magno ha spiegato come Gesù é stato tentato: la tentazione comporta tre elementi: la suggestione del male, il piacere ed il consenso.
San Cipriano osserva che " nella tua battaglia contro le tentazioni, Dio é Lui che inizia la battaglia ,é Lui che combatte ed é Lui che trionfa ed é Lui che lascia a te il merito della vittoria. ... la tua battaglia é la battaglia di Dio; la tua battaglia é la battaglia di Gesù. Di che cosa hai paura?"

" If you think about it, for man, these really are the three great temptations of all times:
the fame of success, the thirst for power, the desire for prestige.
These are the great evils that the season of Lent invites us to do as Jesus did, that is, to distance ourselves from them; to do as all the Saints and all those who aspire to holiness have done with the same decisiveness as Jesus."

If the Lord was tempted, how much more we can expect to be tempted. In His human nature, Jesus experienced in himself what it means to resist Satan and give first place to things of God.
Saint Gregory the Great explained how Jesus was able to be tempted. Temptation implies three elements: the suggestion of evil, pleasure, consent.
Saint Cyprian observes that " in your battles against temptations God is He who begins the fight, it is He who fights, and it is He who triumphs, and to you He leaves the merit of the victory. Your war is God's war; your battle is Jesus Christ's battle. Why do you fear?"

Costruire sulla roccia/ Building on the Rock

(Mt 7,21-27) "perciò chiunque ascolta queste mie parole e le mette in pratica, é simile a un uomo saggio che Ha costruito la sua casa sulla roccia."

Niente c'é di più bello e rassicurante, per noi gente che spesso solo apparentemente siamo coraggiosi, di sapere che quando agiamo con il cuore e seguiamo le regole dettate da Gesù, non possiamo che trovarci saldamente ancorati a Lui, nostra Roccia.
Possiamo, è vero, qualche volta avere delle acute sofferenze o lacerazioni dell'anima. Ma, aggrappati a Lui che é la nostra roccia, la sofferenza sfuma fino a dileguarsi completamente.


"Whoever listens to my words and puts them into practice is like the wise man who built his house on a rock." (Mt. 7:21-27)

There is nothing more beautiful and reassuring, especially for those of us who often only appear to be courageous, to know that when we act with our heart and follow the rules given by Jesus, we can not but find ourselves strongly anchored to him, our Rock.
Sometimes, it's true, we can suffer acutely and feel that our soul has been ripped into a thousands pieces. But, clinging on to Him the suffering gradually dissolves and disappears completely.

Do not worry about your life

Dal Vangelo secondo Matteo 6:24-34

"...Non preoccupatevi per la vostra vita...guardate gli ucceli del cielo: non seminano e non mietono,né raccolgono nei granai; eppure il Padre vostro celeste li nutre: Non valete forse più di loro?
E per il vestito, perché vi preoccupate? osservate come crescono i gigli del campo: non faticano e non filano. Eppure io vi dico che neanche Salomone,con tutta la sua gloria, vestiva come uno di loro. Ora, se Dio veste così l'erba del campo, che oggi c'è e domani si getta nel forno, non farà molto di più per voi, gente di poca fede? Non preoccupatevi dunque dicendo: "Che cosa mangeremo? Che cosa berremo? Che cosa indosseremo?" Di tute queste cose vanno in cerca i pagani. Il Padre vostro celeste, infatti, sa che ne avete bisogno.
Cercate invece, anzitutto, il regno di Dio e la sua giustizia, e tutte queste cose vi saranno date in aggiunta. Non preoccpatevi dunque del domani, perché il domani si preoccuperà di se stesso. A ciascun giorno basta la sua pena>>.

Una breve riflessione: l'impegno quotidiano nel lavoro, la preghiera quotidiana confidenziale con Dio e la fiducia nella sua Misericordia, che rientra nella virtù teologale della Speranza, deve farci stare sereni per il nostro futuro.

Jesus said: "... do not worry about your life ... look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?
Why are you anxious about clothes?learn from the way the wild flowers grow.
They do not work or spin. But i tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them.
If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into th oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?
So do not worry and say,'What are we to eat?' or ' What are we to drink?' or ' What are we to wear?'
All these things the pagans seek.
Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides.
Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil."

A short reflection: our daily efforts at work, our daily prayer where we turn to God with confidence and our trust in his Mercy, bring us to the practice of the theological virtue of Hope. Only in this way can we go towards the future with serenity.

All Mountains Bless The Lord

The Mountains of God

There is an interesting connection between God and mountains. Many authors have noted this link, both in the Old and New Testaments. For example, in the Old Testament there is a specific connection between God and Mt.Sinai and Mt.Sion, and in the Gospel, between Jesus and Mt Tabor, the Mount of Olives, the Mount of the Beatitudes and Mount Calvary.

In fact, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi explains in his book "I Monti di Dio" (The mountains of God) that there are at least eleven holy mountains mentioned in the Bible:
Ararat: The mountain of Noah and the Flood,
Moriah: The mountain of Abraham and Isaac.
Sinai: The mountain of Mose and the 10 Commandments.
Nebo: The mountain where Mose died.
Carmel: The mountain of Eliah
Sion: The mountain of David and Jerusalem
Beatitudes: The mount where Jesus gave His Sermon on the Beatitudes.
Hermon: The mount of Jordan and Peter.
Tabor: The mountain of the Transfiguration.
Calvary: The place where Jesus was crucified.
The Mount of Olives: Where Jesus ascended into Heaven.

In the next several post, I will talk about each of these holy mountains.

Per terminare in bellezza/ To Finish On A High Note

Prima di lasciare l'argomento della speranza nella sofferenza, desidero far conoscere una preghiera che mi é stata inviata in lingua spagnola.

SIGNORE
Se un giorno mi sentissi come soffocato, annientato, stufo della vita, con il desiderio di sparire, insoddisfatto di me stesso e con il mondo attorno a me ostile,
chiedimi
se desidero cambiare la luce con le tenebre,
chiedimi
se desidero cambiare la tavola pronta, con i resti che tanti cercano nei cassonetti,
chiedimi
se desidero cambiare i miei piedi con una sedia a rotelle
chiedimi
se desidero cambiare il mondo dei suoni con il silenzio di quelle persone che non odono nulla,
chiedimi
se desidero cambiare il giornale che leggo e poi butto nella spazzatura con la miseria di quelli che vanno a cercarlo per farne una coperta
chiedimi
se desidero cambiare la mia salute con l’infermità di tanta gente
chiedimi
fino a quando non riconoscerò le tue benedizioni, per fare della mia vita un inno di lode e ringraziamento e dire tutti i giorni dal profondo del mio cuore

if I want to exchange the light with the darkness,

If I want to change a ready meal with the food that many look for in the garbage,

If I want to exchange my feet for a wheelchair,

If I want to exchange the world of sounds for the silence of those people who can't hear anything

if i want to exchange the newspaper that I read and then throw away for the misery of those who try to make a blanket out of those discarded newspapers

if I want to exchange my health for the illnesses of so many people
ask me
how long it will take until I will recognize your blessings, so that my life becomes a hymn of praise and thanksgiving and from the depths of my heart I sing every day:
