Per terminare in bellezza/ To Finish On A High Note

Before moving on from this topic of hope in suffering, I would like to share with you a prayer that was originally sent to me in Spanish:
Lord
if one day I should feel suffocated, oppressed, tired of life, with a great desire run away from everything , dissatisfied with myself and with the hostil world around me,
ask me
if I want to exchange the light with the darkness,
ask me
If I want to change a ready meal with the food that many look for in the garbage,
ask me
If I want to exchange my feet for a wheelchair,
ask me
If I want to exchange the world of sounds for the silence of those people who can't hear anything
ask me
if i want to exchange the newspaper that I read and then throw away for the misery of those who try to make a blanket out of those discarded newspapers
ask me
if I want to exchange my health for the illnesses of so many people
ask me
how long it will take until I will recognize your blessings, so that my life becomes a hymn of praise and thanksgiving and from the depths of my heart I sing every day:

THANK YOU LORD FOR THIS NEW DAY!

E' Natale tutto l'anno/ It's Christmas all year round

E' Natale

It's Christmas
every time you smile at a brother or sister and reach out to them
It's Christmas
every time you remain silent so as to listen to another.
It's Christmas
every time you refuse to accept those principles that push the oppresed to the margins of society.
It's Christmas
every time you hope with those who suffer in physical and spiritual poverty.
It's Christmas
every time you humbly recognize your limits and your weaknesses.
It's Christmas
every time you permit the Lord to be reborn in order to give him to others.

Parte III " Nella Notte buia"/ Part three " In the dark Night"

Fotografia della suora benedettina Raffaella / Photo by the benedectine Siste Rafaela

A Continuation of the reflection of Bishop Gianfranco Ravasi on the words of Benedetta Bianchi Porro:

Suffering becomes, then, a mysterious way for education, purification and beauty. The creature discovers itself to be "small, very small". Nevertheless, it is only in this way that the creature succeeds in reaching the heightest point: "The Lord God is my strength, He makes my feet like those of the deer and lets me run in the high places." (Hab. 3:19). This is the story of Job who, after having lost everything, refinds the most important thing, that is, the vision of God: "I knew you by hearing about you; now, my own eyes see you." (Job 42:5)

And Benedetta, also, who is fully "in the dark night" of blindness, of solitude, and of sorrow can "see God's infinite greatness".

A reflection by Bishop Gianfrano Ravasi on the words of Benedetta Bianchi Porro:

The words written in the previous post were said by Benedetta who had already become blind. Her words give off light and lead us towards an abyss of light. Certainly, this woman feels the frozen walls of solitude going up around her, as the result of her deafness and blindness. Nevertheless, within this prison-tower there is, illuminated by a sun, space for fertile ground in which one's own pain blossoms.

Nella notte buia/ In the dark night

(fotografia tratta dall'album della suora benedettina Rafaela/ photograph is from the photographic book by the Benedectine nun, Sister Raphaela))

From the book of Gianfranco Ravasi,"Mattutino Tempo Del Silenzio"

In the sadness of my deafness, and in the darkest moments of my solitude, I made a big effort to be serene so that my sorrow could flower. I humbily try to be as He wants me: humble and small as I sincerely feel when I succeed in seeing His infinite majesty in the dark night of my most tiring days.

(I'll share with you the comment of Gianfranco Ravasi on the above words of Benedetta Bianchi Porro in the next post)

Interessanti parole di J Donne/ Interesting words of J Donne

photo taken by Sr.Raphaela osb.

No man is an island, complete in himself. Every man is a piece of a continent, a part of the land. If a clump of earth is carried away by a sea wave, the continent of Europe is diminshed.... The death of each person diminshes me, because I participate in humanity. And therefore, I never send anyone to ask for whom the bells toll: it tolls for you!"

Bishop Gianfranco Ravasi adds, "We should participate in every sorrow and in every death as Hemingway reminded us in the title of his famous 1940 novel, that the toll of the bell is the "death toll".
