I santi non dichiaratamente cristiani, semplicemente perché non hanno mai avuto l'occasione di incontrare Gesù, ma che non sono meno salvati da Lui. I santi dei popoli pagani (la Bibbia ce ne dà qualche esempio), perché tutti i popoli hanno i loro santi. Quelli che hanno vissuto effettivamente le beatitudini, senza saperne la fonte. Che hanno vissuto il Vangelo, senza poter riconoscere il volto di Gesù nella Sua Chiesa, sfigurato come era dalle infedeltà di troppi battezzati. le frontiere della Chiesa non coincidono per forza con i muri delle nostre Chiese. Alcuni al di " fuori dalle mura" non hanno forse potuto vivere, paradossalmente, nel cuore della Chiesa? Lo sa Dio che vede nei cuori. " Nell'ineffabile presenza di Dio, molti che sembrerebbero fuori sono dentro, e molti che sembrerebbero dentro sono fuori" ( Sant'Agostino, De Bautismo, 5,27).

There are saints who are not Christians,simply because they never had the opportunity to meet Jesus; but that doesn't mean they weren't saved by Him. There are saints among pagan peoples ( the Bible gives us some examples), because all peoples have their saints. These saints are people who really lived the Beatitudes without knowing the source. They lived the Gospel without being able to recognize the face of Jesus in his Church, who had been disfigured by the infedelity of too many baptized Christians. The boundaries of the Church do not coincide with the walls of our churches. Is it not possible that some of those "outside of the walls", paradoxically, live in the heart of the Church? Only God who reads the human heart knows.
" In the loving presence of God many who would seem to be outside are inside, and many who would seem inside are outside" ( St Augustine, De Baptismo, 5, 27)
