E Carlo Carretto continua: "Ho capito che Dio é il Dio che viene: E ho atteso. Pregare per me significa attendere... Il Dio che viene mi ha ormai conquistato e i miei occhi, stanchi di vedere solo le cose di quaggiù, sono felici di sorridere a lui".
Bishop Gianfranco Ravesi in his book "Mattutino tempo del silenzio" continues reflecting on pain which is like a fortress to be conquered: "Certainly, suffering is something more and has different faces. Above all, we mustn't exclude the mission that pain accomplishes when it knocks at our heart and touches our lives. In that moment, perhaps we should pray with the Psalmist: "Lord, I know that your judgements are right and with good reason you have humilated me. You console me with your grace according to the promises you made to your servant" (Ps. 119: 75-76). And Carlo Carretto continues: I understood that God is the God that comes - and I waited for him. For me, 'to pray' means to wait.... The God who comes has already conquered me and my eyes, tired of looking only at the things here on earth, are happy to smile at him.'"
